In March, 2017, I won a $10,000 scholarship to travel. This is how I did it.
The state of Pennsylvania has an annual architectural competition open to architectural students and young alumni living within the state (within three years of graduation). This competition, the John Stewardson Memorial Fellowship in Architecture, has officially been a state-wide contest for over 100 years.
This year, the competition brief was to design an observatory at the summit of Mount Lemmon in the Catalina’s of Arizona. And the winning submission:
The idea that kept me going during the 10 days while working through this concept, is understanding our small scale in this vast world, but the large impact we endure.
And with that, I decided to use the scholarship to experience that seemingly infinite scale.
